Originally, this breed was developed for hunting. These dogs are able to fetch the downed prey on rough terrain and on water. A dense water proof coat, keen sense of smell, high activity level, devotion to the owner and to the pack make these dogs outstanding hunting companions. Nowadays, they are praised as excellent family pets. These dogs are usually very agile and athletic, but not very well balanced. Their appearance reflects their intelligence, strength, and lack of aggression. These dogs have either wavy or straight coat, which varies in shade from cream to dark brown.
